Soteriophobia is a psychological condition that means the constant or irrational fear of dependence on others. From this condition, a person can get severe panic attacks just for thinking about seeking help. Some get heavy breathing, trembling hands, sweating, high heartbeat, muscle tension. These are some severe indications that may or may not occur.
In our hustle culture, the “self-dependent” word is not atypical. Following this, we try so hard to do everything on our own that we sacrifice our health, home, and personal life. And why not? We see that when someone does things by themselves, they are praised and glorified. We automate our self-gratification with this sense that if we could succeed in a particular business or ace all subjects without other’s guidance we will also be eulogized. This stereotype develops from our childhood and sticks with us till our adulthood. This sometimes comes from dialogues like "You don’t know what it feels like to earn”, “You’ll understand when you have to pay your bills” for demanding mere coloring pencils or guitar. This develops a stigma in our minds that we have to start earning for ourselves from an early age to fulfill our needs.
Well, we should introduce the “inter-dependency” concept. It means why it’s important to keep close ties with our close ones and how we can use them when in need and vice versa. Win at home first is a very underrated mindset now. But to lead a good life we have to live a little like the primitives every day.
" There can be no friendship without confidence,
and no confidence without integrity"~ Samuel Johnson
Grow bondage with your parents, ask them for financial support when you’re not doing well. Talk to your wife or siblings with the same respect and empathy that you would want in return. And there’s no antidote other than friends. People are always happy to help as it brings a surreal to our saint-self. Society’s unhealthy cultures shouldn’t win over our humanity.
